Beyond the busy hostel: an open-air stay in Tha Pai
Stay at Bungalows & Bunks in Tha Pai: bamboo bungalows, a penthouse and individual bunk beds, with shared bathrooms, village life and nearby hot springs.

If you want a change from a busy hostel, Bungalows & Bunks at Oasis Tiki Bar offers simple open-air bamboo bungalows and bunk beds in Tha Pai village, Pai. Around us, neighbours work their farms, move cattle and animal feed, and harvest crops. Three small local Thai restaurants are nearby. It is a different setting for a Pai stay, with real village life around you.
Accommodation details and rates updated 27 October 2026. The original village observations below come from the owner’s account of 18 October.
You can enjoy meeting fellow travellers and still reach the point where you would like to finish a book. Or a thought. Ideally both in the same afternoon.
A working village, not a travel theme
Our village is Tha Pai. The activity around Oasis Tiki Bar is part of people’s everyday work: tending farms, moving feed for animals, taking cattle from place to place and harvesting. Those details come from our owner’s account of the neighbourhood, shared on 18 October 2026.
The cows have places to be. They haven’t shared their itinerary.
Staying here means choosing accommodation within that working setting. It does not mean a staged farm experience or a village tour is included. The appeal is the actual place and the people going about their day, rather than an attraction arranged for a visitor’s camera.
If you are weighing that against a town base, our Pai town or Tha Pai village guide helps you compare the practical differences.
What replaces the hostel experience?
Start with what you want to change. If it is the sleeping arrangement, compare the actual bungalow and bunk options. If it is the setting, look at our real terrace photos and ask about your plans. If it is privacy or a particular facility, say so before choosing.
Bungalows & Bunks has three bamboo bungalows, one raised penthouse bungalow and four individual bunk beds in two bunk frames. All use mosquito netting, with shared showers and toilets and limited privacy. A smaller property does not automatically mean a fully enclosed private room, and choosing a bunk is a different decision from choosing a bungalow.
Nightly prices are ฿400 per whole bamboo bungalow and ฿500 per whole penthouse, each for up to two guests, or ฿250 per person for an individual bunk bed. Check the Bungalows & Bunks stay comparison for current prices and capacity, then choose your dates to see actual availability.
There is a tiki bar on site, open every day from 8:30am–midnight. Village work and bar activity are part of the setting, so we cannot promise silence. Nature has not signed a quiet-hours agreement either.
Read the open-air accommodation guide and ask about weather protection and any facility essential to you. The real sleeping-space photographs and entrance and bamboo-deck gallery show the accommodation; this story’s cover is a village-life illustration.
Three small local Thai restaurants nearby
Our owner identifies three small local Thai restaurants around the village. If part of your plan is to eat locally and get to know the area, ask us where they are and what is open when you visit.
Confirm menus, prices and dietary needs directly with the restaurant. We have not published unverified names, opening hours or walking times. Nor does a stay include meals or a restaurant package.
Leaving a little room to choose food locally can be part of the pleasure. Your spreadsheet can take lunch off.
What about an authentic Thai environment?
For us, the useful description is specific: a working Tha Pai village setting, local restaurants and simple accommodation. Calling a place authentic should explain something real, not suggest that life in Pai town is somehow less Thai.
Let interactions happen naturally. Ask before photographing people, their animals or their work. Check permission before entering fields or private spaces, and leave room for neighbours to get on with what they are doing. A farm is someone’s workplace, even when the light would make a very good photograph.
Ask about a local business or activity you would like to visit rather than assuming access or a welcome inside a private home. Staying nearby does not turn daily village life into a scheduled performance.
Hot springs or a day exploring Pai?
The owner’s local estimate is about a 20-minute walk to Tha Pai Hot Springs. Confirm the route and entrance details; the estimate varies with pace and route, and admission is separate from accommodation. Our hot-springs stay guide explains what to check.
If you want a longer outing, Mae Yen waterfall requires a separate hiking and transport plan. It is not another short walk from Oasis Tiki Bar. You can also plan a bar visit for the views without staying overnight.
Make the change for the right reasons
Before committing, decide whether open-air living, the exact sleeping setup, transport and season fit your trip. Check current advice if smoky-season conditions are relevant; an open-air bungalow should not be treated as an enclosed refuge from smoke.
Then check dates at Bungalows & Bunks or contact us with your group size and requirements. The booking form shows available sleeping spaces and the full stay price before you send a request. A request does not hold a bungalow or bed or confirm a reservation. The owner confirms personally, and accommodation is paid on arrival.
Check-in is from 2pm and checkout is by 12 noon, local Thailand time. Arrange different arrival times and any changes or cancellation terms with us before confirmation.
Come because the real setting sounds like your kind of place. The village will already be busy being itself.
